Gear List: Warped Tour 2015 - Alyson Coletta

Every year I get asked what I bring when I photograph Warped Tour, so this year I decided I would make a blog post about it since I'm using a lot of new gear this year!

Camera Bodies: Nikon D750 and Nikon D5000 (and an Instax Mini 8)

The first show I ever photographed was Warped Tour in 2012 and that was with the Nikon D5000. Every year since I have used the D5000 as my main camera body. This is the first year that I won't be using it as my main body since I upgraded to the Nikon D750 as my main body and I'm excited to create images with it! The Instax Mini 8 is tagging along mainly to take pictures of/with friends. It's always a fun thing to bring around to shows!

Lenses: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Nikon 16-35mm f/4 / Not pictured: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and Sigma 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye

All of my images from last year's warped (minus the few fisheye ones I took) were taken with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. That lens is returning this year and will be a backup lens in case anything goes wrong with my main lenses for this year. The main ones I will be using are my Nikon 50mm f/1.8, which I will have on the D5000 for closeups, and the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 I rented to try out and will be on my D750. Most of the photos will be taken with the 16-35mm f/4 - I'll be using it from 7/10-7/14. The 2 lenses that are not pictured are lenses that I'll be renting for my last 2 Warped Tour dates - 7/19 and 7/21. I'll be testing out the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 on 7/19 and Sigma 15mm f/2.8 fisheye lens on 7/21.

I always like to try before I buy lenses or camera bodies. I don't want to spend thousands on things that I may end up not liking. For camera bodies, I just go to the Best Buy that's near my house because they always have DSLR's on display. I sat there for over an hour using the D750 and D610 before I decided that I wanted to buy the D750. As for lenses, I like to rent those first since I can't play with those at Best Buy. I rent them for at least 2 days and try them out. I find it to be worth spending the money on the rental before handing over $1,000+ for a new lens that I don't even know if I'll like.

Rectangle objects in the last row: Think Tank Photo Pee Wee Pixel Pocket Rocket and business cards from Moo.com

Think Tank is a godsend to photographers (at least in my opinion). Their gear is so helpful and helps me stay organized. I love their Pocket Rockets. I have the Pee Wee one - it came with my Think Tank bag (which is holding all of this gear with room to spare) - and what it does it holds all your memory cards for you! There are CF card slots and SD card slots. I use some of the CF card slots for my SD cards and they fit in there and stay in perfectly. Because of this neat little thing, I now no longer lose my memory cards or forget them at home. The Pee Wee one is just under $17 and I highly recommend getting one. It makes memory card storage so much easier and organized.

As for my business cards, they're from Moo.com. Moo is the best site to order business cards from, in my opinion. The quality of their cards is outstanding. They also come in a neat little box that you can carry them in (which is what's in the picture). I honestly do not think I will never order from another site besides Moo for my business cards. While Moo is more expensive than a site like Vistaprint, it's worth it. Your business cards leave an impression on people, and the design and quality of the card are both important. Use Vistaprint if you want to mass print business cards really cheap to hand out to fans at shows. Otherwise, stick to Moo to get business cards if you want to make a good impression on potential clients.

The camera bag that's storing all of this? Well, that's none other than my Think Tank Photo Urban Disguise 60 v2.0. The bag holds all of this stuff with room leftover for my wallet, car keys, a 17" laptop, laptop cables, and more. The quality of the bag is fantastic as well. I've had it for over 2 years now and it still looks brand new! I love this company and if you want a long lasting camera bag, definitely invest in Think Tank! Hopefully this gives you an idea of what I bring to shoot Warped and it'll help you make some decisions on what to bring to Warped or any show you might be shooting! I can't wait to share all my images!
